Wettable sulphur

Enxofre molhável · efficacy high · evidence strong · bees caution_dusk

How it works

Sulphur vapour interferes with fungal respiration and desiccates mites. It works both as a barrier before infection and lightly curatively after.

Recipe

Follow label rate, typically 3-5 g per litre. Keep it agitated - it settles fast in the tank.

How to apply

Vines: from bud burst, every 10-14 days through the risk period. Roses and fruit: at first sign. Apply in the cool of the morning.

Targets — pests

Spider mite, Russet mite, Erinose mite

Targets — diseases

Powdery mildew, Vine oidium, Scab

Supplies: Wettable sulphur, 5 L pressure sprayer, Gloves and mask

Days to harvest after spraying: 5

Best months: March, April, May, June, September

Cautions

NEVER above 30 C - it burns foliage badly, and Portuguese summer afternoons hit that easily. NEVER within 3 weeks of any oil spray: sulphur plus oil is strongly phytotoxic. Some cucurbit and gooseberry varieties are sulphur-sensitive.

The thing people get wrong

The sulphur-and-oil interval is the mistake that costs people whole plants. If you sprayed neem or white oil, write the date down - three full weeks must pass before sulphur touches that plant, and the reverse is equally true.
