TeddyGreenFingers for Android

Family test build · version 1.0.0 · 81 MB

The app is not in the Play Store yet, so for now it installs from this page. Android will warn you about installing from outside the store — that is expected, and the steps below walk you through it. It takes about two minutes.

Get the app

Download for Android

Open this page on the phone itself, in Chrome, and tap the button. Works on Android 7 and newer. Not for iPhone — an iPhone version comes through the App Store later.

Installing it

  1. Tap Download for Android above. If Chrome asks whether to keep the file, choose Download anyway — it says that about every file that is not from the Play Store.
  2. When the download finishes, tap the notification, or open Files → Downloads and tap teddygreenfingers.apk.
  3. The phone will say Chrome is not allowed to install unknown apps. Tap Settings, switch on Allow from this source, then go back.
  4. Tap Install. If Google Play Protect asks, choose Install anyway — the app is signed and comes straight from us, it is simply not listed in the store yet.
  5. Open TeddyGreenFingers, create your account with your email address (or sign in with Google), and check your inbox for the confirmation email before the first sign-in. It sometimes lands in spam.

Once it is installed you can switch Allow from this source back off. It only needs to be on for the install itself.

Good to know

Your own garden, or a shared one?

Everyone sets up their own garden when they first sign in. If you would rather share a garden with someone in the family, they can send you an invite code from Settings and you enter it in yours. Codes expire after a week.

Updates

Most improvements arrive on their own the next time you open the app with a connection — nothing to reinstall. Occasionally a bigger change needs a fresh download; when that happens, come back to this page and install over the top. Your garden stays put.

The identification feature

It is a machine's best guess from one photo. Useful in the garden, never a reason to eat a mushroom. See the terms.
