Clubroot
Plasmodiophora brassicae · Hérnia das couves
What you see
Brassicas wilt on sunny days despite moist soil; lift one and roots are swollen into grotesque knobbly clubs.
Conditions
Acid, wet soils; once in the ground it persists up to 20 YEARS.
Treatment
None for infected plants - remove and bin them, roots and all, never compost.
Prevention
Lime the brassica bed (it hates alkaline soil); long rotations; raise your own transplants (bought ones import it); good drainage.
