Blossom end rot
(calcium transport disorder) · Podridão apical
What you see
Sunken leathery dark patch on the BOTTOM of tomatoes and peppers. Not an infection - a calcium delivery failure inside the fruit.
Conditions
Erratic watering: drought then flood stops calcium reaching the fruit tip. Pots and hot spells are prime territory.
Treatment
Remove affected fruit; fix the WATERING, not the soil - the next trusses will be clean.
Prevention
Steady, deep, regular watering; mulch; avoid excess nitrogen; no need for calcium sprays in most soils.
